The Woongarra Marine Park Monitoring and Education Project is an on-going, community-based program whose purpose is to:

  • Collect baseline data
  • Offer educational and training activities
  • Raise awareness about coastal ecosystems and the impacts of human activities

Office space is donated by the Burnett ShireThrough the efforts of volunteers, corporate sponsors and industry supporters, the WMPMEP is assisting local management agencies in the process of sustainable coastal planning and awareness, bridging local solutions to national and global marine issues.

The project has over 170 active registered volunteers with an additional 100 supporters.

The Woongarra Marine Park Monitoring & Education Project is an initiative of the Australian Marine Conservation Society - Bundaberg & District Branch and is funded by Coastcare. In 2001, the WMPM&EP moved under the auspices of Central Queensland University where it has been granted reseach status.
