The Woongarra region offers very accessible and interesting shallow reef diving from its rocky shore, making it one of the most popular shore diving destinations in Australia.

Impressive colonies of branching, staghorn, plate, brain and honeycomb corals live only a few metres from shore. Amongst these stunning coral gardens you can find cowries, nudibranches, urchins, feather stars, brittle stars, coral shrimps and crayfish. All available rock surfaces are covered with a variety of soft corals, gorgonians, sea whips, anemones, sponges,  black coral, ascidians and bivalves.

Hundreds of fish speicies have been recorded in Woongarra ranging from the beautiful scribbled angel to the yellowtail kingfish.Permanent residents include tasselled wobbegongs, epaulette sharks and olive sea snakes.
