Water testing is undertaken monthly. The data gives us additional information about the conditions being experienced by the flora and fauna (plants and animals) at each of the six sites [see maps]:

Double Rocks Low Usage
Burkitts Reef Medium Usage
Barolin Point High Usage
Hoffmans Rocks High Usage
Mouth of Burnett River High Traffic
Bulk Sugar Terminal High Traffic

Samples are also taken following a dramatic events, such as a flood or cyclone. After a large rainfall or cyclone, water flow increases from rivers and stormwater drains. This has the effect of decreasing salinity and increasing turbidity. Both these conditions will increase stress being placed on organisms such as coral and seagrass.
